Coronavirus Update

MAY 7th UPDATE

Dear Church Family & Friends,

We will be celebrating Mother’s Day this Sunday. We still need to be cautious and aware of social distancing, but we are glad to be back worshipping together. To be safe and responsible, we have will implement the following practices.  These guidelines will help minimize the exposure for our church family and friends.

Doors and Greeting

Doors will be held open for you as you arrive, which will enable you to enter the building without touching door handles.

Over the next few weeks, we will not have our greeting time during the service, we encourage everyone to share a wave and a smile rather than a hug or a handshake.

 Offering

We will not be passing offering plates.  If you desire to give, and we hope you’ll continue, we will have offering plates located by each door of the sanctuary for your offering.  We also encourage you to give online through our church’s website.

 Seating

We will mark off an appropriate distance to keep people a safe distance apart. We would ask that you be respectful of others coming to worship and maintain a safe distance when coming into the building and interacted with others.

If you feel it is best to stay home rather than venturing out, we understand, and we will have the sermon posted on our website each Sunday afternoon.

 Re-Opening Timeline & Procedures

May 10th – Life Groups – Group-Link (continental breakfast in Family Life Center) will take place at 9:15 am.

May 17th – Sunday School (9:15 am) will resume with classroom changes.

May 17th – We have our business meeting following the morning service at 11:45 am

 June 3rd – Awana Awards Night – Drive-Thru Celebration

We have made the decision to cancel our Awana ministry for the remainder of the year due to social distancing challenges. We are planning to celebrate the clubbers with a “Drive-Thru” Awards night on June 3rd.  We are in the process of creating a organized gym night (when it’s safe) throughout the summer for those kids desiring to play basketball. We will start registration for that real soon.

UPDATE: APRIL 24, 2020

Dear Church Family & Friends,

We have made the decision to begin opening our church services and ministries beginning on May 3rd. We are of course excited about the prospect of worshipping together again, however, we still need to be cautious and aware of social distancing. In order to make this transition in a safe and responsible way, we will implement the following practices.  These guidelines will help minimize the exposure for our church family and friends.

Re-Opening Timeline & Procedures

  •  May 3rd – Sunday Morning Worship (10:30 am) and Cross-Eyed Youth Gatherings’ (6:00 pm) resume.
  •  May 10th – Life Group – GroupLink (continental breakfast in Family Life Center) will take place at 9:15 am.
  •  May 17th – Sunday School (9:15 am) will resume with classroom changes.

Currently, we are not opening our Awana ministry due to social distancing challenges. Please continue to be in prayer for this. We have also made the difficult decision to cancel our Upward Basketball Season. We are in the process of creating a organized gym night (when it’s safe) throughout the summer for those kids desiring to play basketball. Once we have finalized this, we will update you.

Nursery & Youth Meeting

Be assured that our church facilities are appropriately cleaned each week and the nursey is sanitized before each Sunday. In addition, we will have bottles of sanitizer within reach as you enter the building.

If you feel it’s best to stay home rather than venturing out, we understand, and we will have the sermon posted on our website each Sunday afternoon.  We realize that these are difficult times and in some ways a challenge when making decisions. We encourage you to walk in the truth of Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

UPDATE: APRIL 2, 2020

Dear New Hope Family & Friends

I must admit, I hate these updates!  But they seem to be a necessary evil during this time.  We have intentionally limited ourselves to making decisions each week because our situations and circumstances are fluid. To be honest, we want to get back to meeting together.  Despite my desire, we want to be extremely cautioned with regards to the health and safety of our church family and community.  Below is a schedule to help you stay in the know.  We are getting closer to the summer and have made a few changes:

We will not be meeting for worship this Sunday (April 5th) or having Awana Wednesday night (April 8th).  We will be posting a link to the Awana lessons for the T&T kids who are staying on track.  You should receive an email containing those links.

We will also be moving our next session of “LIFE GROUPS” to begin in May along with the sermon series “Love Like That”.  Below you find some changes to other ministries that are a little farther away on the calendar but affect us.

  • Our GroupLink will be on Mother’s Day (May 10th) and the First Life Group meeting will be the week of May 17th.
  • Upward Evaluations are being moved into the month May with the season still starting on May 16th

  • Right now Summer Camp remains June 7th – 13th (Registration will be extended)

  • We will move VBS to August 3rd – 7th

  • Awana Grand Prix was scheduled for April 22nd – It is postponed until a later date

We will be posting the message online for you and your family to view and starting with Sunday’s message – we will be doing a brief video each day as we count down to Easter.

We also would like to take this opportunity to minister where we can.  Just because we are not meeting together in the same building, we are still the church!  Continue to reach out and be the Hands and Feet of Jesus during this time.

If you have a need, please contact the office @ 941-776-8687 or nhbc@nhbconline.org

UPDATE: MARCH 26, 2020

Dear New Hope Family & Friends

Our latest update concerning the Coronavirus has us making a few more adjustments to help with this situation.  We have intentionally limited ourselves to making decisions one week at a time because our situations and circumstances are so fluid right now.  We want to be extremely cautioned with regards to the health and safety of our church family and community.  We have made the decision to cancel our Services and youth events for another week.  We will not be meeting for worship Sunday March 29th, our Wednesday night (April 2nd) children’s programs or our Life groups.

We will be posting the message online for you and your family to view.

In an effort to be good stewards we have adjusted our budget as well as put operational best practices into place to help curve expenses.

We also would like to take this opportunity to minister where we can.  Just because we are not meeting together in the same building, we are still the church!  So let’s reach out and be the Hands and Feet of Jesus during this time.  There are many ways to serve the Lord.  Below are just a few ideas:

  • When you’re at the store purchase some extra things to give to the local food bank for families in need.
  • Check in on your friends and neighbors and to help provide childcare or tasks that need to be done.
  • Offer to run needed errands for the elderly
  • Pick up and deliver groceries to those who are vulnerable and in need
  • Place to phone call to our church family and friends to check on them and offer encouragement.
  • Contact the Church office to find out more specific needs that might be able to be met

If you have a need, please contact the office @ 941-776-8687 or nhbc@nhbconline.org

UPDATE:  March 19, 2020

Dear New Hope Family & Friends,

Since our last update, the President as well as our State Governor, have both urged that gatherings with 25 or more people be postponed or cancelled. In light of this and in an abundance of caution, we are cancelling all services and activities for the next week.  This includes Sunday morning worship on the 22nd, Life Groups as well as our Wednesday night children’s ministries on March 25th

In times like these, we are reminded that the church is not confined to a building or a location. The church is a family, and as our family gathers in their own homes rather than in our church building, we have an incredible opportunity to join in together by watching and sharing God’s Word together, though separated.

Starting at 10:30am Sunday morning, we will post on our website the message for you to view.  Our prayer is that God will use each one of us as we adjust for the circumstances of the moment.  That we would continue to encourage one another in the Lord and seek to Glorify Him as we navigate these changes and seek to continue to point people to Christ. Now more than ever, we should seek to speak and live in the peace of God in these difficult times.

This isn’t an easy decision and our leadership isn’t making this decision lightly. This decision isn’t done out of a spirit of fear, but rather a spirit of love.  We have chosen not to meet as a congregation out of love for our neighbors and communities.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9 (NKJV)

Just a reminder, we hope you’ll continue to give to our ministry.  We have placed a link right below the sermon video for you to be able to worship God through your giving.

I will be sending out an email with an update each week on Thursday afternoons.  We will also post that email on our website under the "CORONAVIRUS UPDATE" tab.

Serving Our Savior,

Kevin Thompson, Pastor

UPDATE:  March 12, 2020

Dear New Hope Family & Friends,

Many people have questioned how the church plans to respond to COVID-19 (Coronavirus).   We have been monitoring this situation and will make updates to these plans, should this outbreak get worse.  Currently, there are no plans to cancel our services or youth meetings.  However, we do feel it’s important for us to take precautions.  Should things worsen, we are willing to follow the requests of our State officials.

To help you be prepared and protected from any unnecessary exposure to the virus, the Center for Disease Control and World Health Organization are recommending these practices:

1.     Stay home if you are sick!

2.     Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

(If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer).

3.     Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

4.     Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

5.     Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

6.     Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

In addition to these guidelines our church will be implementing the following steps to help minimize the exposure for our church family and friends.

Nursery & Youth Meeting

Be assured that our church facilities are appropriately cleaned each week and the nursey is sanitized before each Sunday.  When spring break is over, and our children’s ministry resumes, we will add an additional cleaning of those areas.
